Dowels, as pre-fabricated jointing elements in wood manufacturing works, cost only a small proportion of the total cost of the article. If consideration is given to the important function which dowels must fulfil in the assembly of units and box furniture, it is obvious that the use of unsuitable dowels or dowels of inferior quality can cause many problems in production which bear no relation to the savings expected through cheap purchases.
